Europeanvaction1979/day6

My father was in the USAF. We spent nearly nine years in Europe. We lived in Greece, Italy and England. Every few years my Grandparents would come to visit. When they did, we were off for a five week journey across Europe. My grandmother kept a journal of our travels. Recently while cleaning out a closet, my Mother came across the journals. The memories came flying back! I decided to share these journels with you. Each day I will post a chapter as she has written them. I hope you enjoy reading these as much as I did.

The first Journal was in 1979. We lived in Hellenikon Greece.

Day 6-Thursday May 31 1979

The weather in Greece is much like our weather in Florida. This day was no exception from the warm days we had had since our arrival. We were up early as Al had to work a half-day and the Sean and Ryan were going for their last day of school before we took off for Italy.

Jan, Craig and I went to "Thursday Market" then picked Al up at the base while George stayed at home to rest up he said, but the truth was he was not feeling up to par.

The rest of the day was spent packing. Each of us was limited to one medium size box since space in the van was going to be limited. Al came up with a box the size of a postage stamp insisting he could get all he needed in it! A little later he changed his mind and packed a carton slightly larger than a bread box. He was emphatic on the subject that we were all taking more clothes than we needed, a fact which, upon arriving home four weeks later, we had to agree.

Somewhere in the late afternoon we had a two minute heave rain shower, the only rain I saw the entire time in Greece.

All turned in early with the excitement high anticipating a long trip the next day.
